A couple of weeks ago, in the beautiful setting of Chantily, France, we were pleased to be invited along to the Ipanema customer roundtable event. We were delighted to be joined by Vincent Best, Global WAN Manager from Solvay — a long-established chemical company that has recently implemented the BT Connect Optimisation managed service.
Solvay had decided on the service due to its ability to dynamically adapt to the company’s changing business requirements (sale of divisions, geographical expansion, mergers and acquisition), while still reducing costs by 30 per cent and guaranteeing business applications performance.
The goal for Solvay was to optimise the service delivered while reducing costs, and this was summarised into three main challenges:
1. To support more sites, applications and users, but with the same network resources.
2. To move applications successfully to the cloud.
3. To use all MPLS and internet resources as a single unified network, to improve the end user experience.
Together, BT and Solvay looked at several solutions to work out which was the right fit. Solvay chose a hybrid network, including Ipanema’s devices, that delivered applications protection according to business criticality, the dynamic management of the IT transformations, HTTP traffic priority based on URL, and a dynamic load balancing solution. This addressed their challenges and it was the partnership between BT and Ipanema that made it so easy to implement and so effective once in place.
Whilst at the event, BT was awarded the Best Customer Implementation award, as well as the Partner of the Year award by Ipanema. Receiving the award, Dan Poulter (Portfolio and Service Design Manager, BT Global Services) said, ‘Solvay is a great example of the multi-faceted benefits of Connect Optimisation from Ipanema, adding greater intelligence to the network to enable business change, including managing hybrid networks, moving to SaaS applications and guaranteeing the performance of SAP and unified communications.’
